The Maritime Steam Restoration Trust comprises four individuals who firmly believe that Historic Steam Powered Vessels still have a role to play within the Maritime History of Great Britain have set up the Maritime Steam Restoration Trust as a Registered Charity.

We accept that not all steam-powered vessels are capable of being returned to ‘full working order’. But we feel that where possible equipment on these vessels should be put back into working order, after all if this is done then it makes the whole experience more interesting and therefore will attract more visitors, which in turn means more income for the Trust!

These type of vessels as it turns out where built too late for WW2 and as with ‘Stalker’ they had no ‘War Record’, but it wasn’t until after WW2 that this type of vessel really showed just how ‘flexible and adaptable’ the design really was.

As you will have noticed there is no Membership Fee or Association Fee this has been done on purpose as we the Trustees feel that although this would be a good source of income for the Trust that this would leave us open to criticism and quit possibly leave the Trust open to being charged under Charitable Law for failing to uphold our Charitable Objectives. So this decision was adopted also because there are unemployed people out there we feel that could not afford to pay this Fee, and these are some of the very people we are dedicated to helping.

The project is therefore to restore ‘Stalker’ back to ‘Full Working Condition’. We at the Trust agreed that because of her good original condition that it is ‘not impossible’ to restore her to full ‘Operational Condition’. It was agreed that ‘Stalker’ should not become another ‘Static’ vessel.

We at the Trust feel that although not all Historic Preserved Vessel are capable of going back to sea, but those that are should be made to do so! But those that can’t should be encouraged to restore items of Plant and Machinery back into working order. The general public are not satisfied anymore with just going to see a vessel that does nothing. It could therefore be said that these vessels are all dressed up with nowhere to go. This will not happen to ‘Stalker’!

Marine steam engines - How do they work

Water is one of the most powerful elements on earth, it can destroy, kill, harm or create, but most importantly it can move.
